Truck Driver

Location: Bungoma, Kenya

Industry: Construction

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: Kshs. 35,000

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Truck Driver to join our team in Bungoma, Kenya. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently to various destinations as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and maintain company trucks in compliance with all company and road safety regulations.
  • Transport goods and materials to specified destinations according to delivery schedules.
  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Plan routes and meet delivery schedules.
  • Document and log work/rest periods and kilometres spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts.
  • Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Report defects, accidents, or violations.

Safe Vehicle Operation:

  • Drive Ashok Leyland trucks in a safe, efficient, and professional manner.
  • Ensure compliance with all Kenyan traffic laws and road safety regulations.
  • Observe speed limits, road signs, and safety protocols at all times.

Transportation of Construction Materials:

  • Pick up construction materials from the warehouse or supplier and deliver them to designated project sites on time.
  • Plan routes to ensure timely delivery while minimizing fuel consumption and travel time.
  • Ensure materials are secured properly to prevent damage during transit.

Loading and Offloading:

  • Assist with safe loading and offloading of construction materials, using appropriate lifting methods or tools.
  • Check the condition of goods before transport and upon delivery, reporting any damage immediately.

Vehicle Maintenance & Inspection:

  • Conduct pre-trip inspections to check brakes, tires, lights, engine oil, and other safety-critical systems.
  • Report and coordinate any maintenance or repair requirements with the mechanics or supervisor.
  • Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of the truck, including interior, exterior, and cargo area.

Documentation & Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate trip logs, delivery notes, fuel consumption records, and maintenance reports.
  • Submit delivery reports promptly to the site manager or logistics department.

Coordination & Communication:

  • Liaise with site supervisors, warehouse staff, and logistics coordinators for smooth operations.
  • Communicate any delays, accidents, or road issues promptly to the supervisor.
  • Follow instructions from management regarding route changes or urgent deliveries.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when on site or handling materials.
  • Participate in safety meetings or training sessions as required.

Professionalism & Reliability:

  • Maintain discipline, punctuality, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, showing initiative when required.
  • Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward company property, colleagues, and clients.

Additional Duties:

  • Occasionally assist with minor mechanical troubleshooting or truck cleaning.
  • Support other logistics or site tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Truck Driver.
  • A valid truck up-to-date BCE Driving License.
  • Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
