The Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company (KIWASCO) Limited was founded in 2001 and began its operations in July 2003 to provide adequate clean potable water and to collect, treat, and dispose sewerage (wastewater) within the jurisdiction of Kisumu City. In 2019, the company changed its name from a sewerage to Sanitation Company, in order to expand its scope and mandate of providing sanitation services in Kisumu County. KIWASCO supplies water 24 hours, everyday.
Job Description
- The Incumbent will be responsible for planning, designing and developing water distribution systems, wastewater systems and building structures to improve water supply and sanitation.
Principal Accountabilities
- Preparing contract documents and project reports including BOQ’S specifications, drawings implementation and supervision.
- Carrying out periodical technical assessments to determine company infrastructural needs.
- Carrying out preliminary design and costing of the works to be carried out.
- Preparing and providing reports on rehabilitation, expansion and other infrastructural works.
- Planning and implementing the preventive and corrective operation and maintenance of network and other water and sewer infrastructure.
- Supporting performance improvement planning for other technical department sections
- Advising the Head of Technical Services on procurement of professional services with respect to infrastructure design and construction.
- Preparing and monitoring budgets for this section
- Conducting research on improvement of the Company’s services pertaining to improved equipment, new methods of construction etc.
- Collaborating with the strategy and business development section to prepare and submit proposals on different technical projects for KIWASCO.
- Collaborating with other bodies e.g. county and National Government, KENHA, KURA among others to ensure incorporation of water and sanitation plans in their construction plans.
Key Qualifications and Competence
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field
- Registered Graduate Member with IEK and EBK
- At least six (6) years, three of which should have been in a managerial position
- Knowledge of professional engineering practice standards
- Knowledge of contract management especially FIDIC and CESMM
- Knowledge in water engineering
- Knowledge of utility management and infrastructure
- Project management, water and sewerage infrastructure operation
- Civil works and knowledge of design and relevant engineering software including AutoCAD, WaterCAD or WaterGEMS or related, SewerCAD, or related software, and other engineering design and related software.
