Job Description
  • The position is responsible for oversight and management of all general liability, workers compensation and auto liability claims.
  • To ensure timely legal action, managing third-party recoveries, and pursuing out-ofcourt settlements where appropriate, while supporting broader risk management and insurance initiatives.

KEY TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess genuine claims and curb fraud upon receipt of demand letters and summons.
  • Upon analysis of a claim, give instructionsfor the appointment of external advocates to vehemently defend claims in court.
  • Review investigation reports to curb fraud and ensure disclaimer suits are filed on time.
  • Ensure insured’s, assessors, investigator, and claims/legal officers record witness statements and attend court when called upon by advocates.
  • Follow up with respective appointed advocates on negotiations of matters already before the court and ensure consent judgments are recorded and the terms of the consent followed to the letter.
  • Assessment of Advocates fee notes to ensure that they are drawn to scale and within the provisions of the Advocates Remuneration Order and agreed Service Level Agreements (ARO).
  • Ensure confirmation/ verification of adherence to policy conditions and compliance with statutory requirements have been met under the policy before instructing advocates to represent us.
  • Manage external lawyers on a day to day basis and ensure that the cases in court are handled in the best interests of the company and also monitor court attendance by advocates on the various matters we have instructed them to represent us.

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Law.
  • Admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3 years of
  • working experience.
