We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Department – ICU/HDU to lead and manage our critical care services. The successful candidate will provide strategic and clinical leadership to ensure delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care in both the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and management of ICU/HDU services.
Develop and implement departmental policies, protocols, and quality standards.
Oversee patient care and ensure adherence to evidence-based critical care practices.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate ICU/HDU staff, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
Coordinate staff scheduling, workload management, and training needs.
Ensure efficient use of resources, equipment, and consumables in critical care units.
Monitor patient safety indicators, infection control, and clinical outcomes, and drive quality improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with hospital leadership and multidisciplinary teams to support seamless care delivery.
Lead morbidity and mortality reviews, audits, and departmental meetings.
Support continuous professional development and promote a culture of excellence and teamwork.
Qualifications
Bachelors of Science in Nursing
Postgraduate training in Anaesthesia, Critical Care Medicine, or specialization in ICU care.
Valid registration and practicing license with the Nursing Council Of Kenya (KMPDC).
Minimum of 5-7 years’ clinical experience in ICU/HDU, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
