Working in Kenya since 1992, Handicap International currently employs 80 local staff and three expatriates. BACKGROUND Despite the post-electoral violence of 2007-2008, Kenya has largely maintained its internal stability and its predominant role in East Africa. However, the situation of disabled and vulnerable people is still fragile and many services need to be provided, such as education, preventative care, and protection against sexual violence. The country also has an enormous population of refugees, largely from Somalia and South Sudan. This vulnerable population, especially those with disabilities, has enormous needs in terms of food, healthcare, and other basic services.
Job Description

YOUR MISSION:

 

Reporting to the country director and in collaboration with HQ services, you as Logistics Manager, ensure the efficient management of logistics resources for the region under your responsibility.

 

You are the point person for the country director and as such informs him of any problems that fall within your remit and suggests solutions. You are a key player in the rollout and implementation of HI’s logistics standards, which consists in reworking the positioning of logistics at HI and affirming the principle of professional development You will provide technical assistance and guidance to the local partner in Sudan while being based in Nairobi with regular travel to Sudan upon VISA approvals.

 

The engagement of the Logistics Manager will focus on:

 

Establishing strong Logistics processes in lines with HI policies and procedures and sectorial best practices, ensuring process allow rapid scale up while maintaining required compliance

 

Ensuring proactive and efficient direct implementation of projects scheduled in 2025 and provide constant reactive support to the team deployed on the field.

 

Providing technical support to the local partner(s) for complex procurement, and adjustment of logistics approaches to changing security context.

 

Your responsibilities will include :

 

Management

 

Defines the Logistics section of the StratOp and directs its action plan

 

Deploys HI’s standards and contributes to its expertise and accountability within his or her remit:

 

Operational implementation of logistics

 

Facilitates the Logistics profession’s development and contributes towards the development of the logistics profession across the organisation

 

Emergency Preparedness and Response Responsibilities

 

Diagnostic phase – Contextual analysis:

 

Design phase – Resources planning:

 

Launch phase – Procurement planning

 

YOUR PROFILE:

 

You hold a degree in logistics or supply chain, with training in logistics management and development of humanitarian projects/operations, or equivalent.

 

You have proven experience in at least 5 years of the following sectors: procurement / supplies, management / rehabilitation of premises, fleet management, and/or information and communication systems, and at least 4 years’ experience in a coordination position.

 

With a high capacity for analysis and synthesis, you have proven training and local capacity building experience.

 

You are able to project quickly in an emergency context, manage your stress, and work under pressure.

 

You are able to handle conflicts, you have strong interpersonal and intercultural skills, with good communication and negotiation skills in English.
