Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Solar Design Engineer to join our team. The Senior Design Engineer will oversee the technical aspects of solar projects, from initial design to implementation, ensuring all projects meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of photovoltaic (PV) solar systems for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Lead the design and engineering of solar PV, battery storage, and hybrid systems for grid-tied, off-grid, and mini-grid applications.

 

Conduct detailed energy assessments, site surveys, and load analysis to determine optimal system configurations.

 

Prepare technical proposals including system sizing, single line diagrams (SLDs), equipment specifications, and cost estimations.

 

Collaborate with sales, project management, and installation teams to ensure seamless project execution and alignment with customer requirements.

 

Evaluate and integrate new technologies and design tools to enhance system performance and cost efficiency.

 

Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and post-installation phases as needed.

 

Mentor junior engineers and support continuous technical training within the team.

 

Ensure all designs adhere to local regulations, international standards (e.g., IEC, NEC), and internal quality and safety guidelines.

 

Support project teams during procurement, installation, and commissioning.

 

Ensure compliance with local and international standards (NEC, IEC, EBK, etc.).

 

Evaluate and integrate new technologies and tools to improve design efficiency.

 

Qualifications & Experience

 

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field.

 

Professional certifications, such as T3, PMI, are highly preferred.

 

Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of solar PV systems, with at least 2 years in a senior or leadership role.

 

Strong proficiency in solar design software (PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, etc.).

 

Knowledge of energy storage systems and battery-based storage solutions.

 

Extensive knowledge of the electrical design of solar systems, including AC and DC circuits, inverters, energy storage systems, and grid-tied and off-grid systems.

 

Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and vendor management.

 

In-depth knowledge of Kenyan regulatory standards, including the Kenyan Renewable Energy Authority (REA), Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) requirements, and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

 

Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to clients and non-technical stakeholders.

 

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
