Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) is a leading owner/ operator of one of the largest and most prestigious power generating projects in Africa. As part of its operations, LTWP undertakes regular maintenance of its facilities comprising of plant civil works, camps, roads, water systems, sewer systems, boreholes, and other structural elements through its Civil Works Team (CWT). LTWP also undertakes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through Winds of Change Foundation which involves construction projects.
Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the construction and commissioning of overhead lines, supports, and foundations for overhead lines.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on overhead equipment and hardware.
- Install insulators, fastening components, and accessories.
- Diagnose and repair faults in overhead lines.
- Test insulation, voltage, and continuity of the overhead cables.
- Ensure the safety of other workers and comply with safety codes and procedures, especially when working at height and with electrical works.
- Control the vegetation beneath overhead lines, around turbine bases, and WTG transformers
- Report to the supervisor on matters related to overhead lines and related equipment maintenance.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- To support the behaviour of working as LTWP, sharing best practice, and collaborating with colleagues outside of your own sphere of business.
- To always act and behave in a way compliant with all LTWP company guidelines and policies, especially those relating to values and behaviours, environmental health and safety, ethics and codes of conduct, as it is through living our values that we strengthen the culture of our business and demonstrate our understanding of our Code of Conduct; and,
- Any other duties deemed necessary and relevant by the management in the smooth running of LTWP operations.
- The above duties and responsibilities may vary from time to time and include any other responsibilities that arise during the company’s day-to-day business.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Knowledge of high voltage best practices and safety.
- KCSE certificate holder.
- Five (5) years of relevant experience in the operation and maintenance of overhead lines.
- Physical strength and endurance to climb and stand for long periods.
- Ability to use power tools, test equipment, and measuring instruments.
- Ability to read and generate diagrams of electrical installations and wiring.
- A trade test certificate will be an added advantage.
