Job Description
About the Role
BURN is looking for a highly skilled and data-driven Product Manager to lead the development and optimization of our customer-facing Android and iOS mobile app. This app is a critical touchpoint for engaging our customers, driving value, and supporting business objectives across diverse markets in Africa.
The goal of the app is to drive the usage of BURN’s electric induction cookers by providing valuable insights, enhancing customer engagement, and supporting a seamless user experience. The app will integrate with the induction cooker to display key usage data, such as energy consumption and cooking patterns, helping users maximize the cooker’s benefits while creating additional value for the business.
The Product Manager will serve as both the owner and champion of the app, leveraging data to deeply understand user behaviour and building features that improve engagement, retention, and customer satisfaction. A key focus will be the design and implementation of a loyalty program to enhance user stickiness and drive long-term value. This role will work closely with country-focused Product Managers, market research teams, the marketing team, and the engineering team to ensure the app meets the needs of customers across all markets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Product Strategy and Roadmap
- Own the product vision and roadmap for the customer app, aligning it with business goals and customer needs across multiple markets.
- Prioritize features and updates that drive cooker usage, including app-cooker integrations such as displaying real-time usage data, energy consumption, and cooking history.
- Ensure the app delivers a consistent yet localized experience that resonates with customers in all markets.
- Balance short-term feature development with long-term strategic goals, factoring in platform-specific constraints for Android and iOS.
- Data-Driven Development
- Leverage app analytics (e.g., page views, session duration, interaction data) to understand user behaviour and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Define and track KPIs such as retention, churn, engagement, and conversion rates to measure app performance.
- Use data insights to run A/B tests and experiments, iterating on features to improve user engagement and satisfaction.
- Customer Loyalty and Engagement
- Design and implement a loyalty points system to reward user engagement, enhance app stickiness, and create long-term customer value.
- Develop features and content that improve the customer journey, support cooker adoption, and drive repeat usage.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure seamless integration of engagement campaigns, push notifications, and promotions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Interacted closely with country-focused product managers to gather market-specific insights and ensure the app reflected the needs of customers in each region.
- Work with the market research team to understand customer personas, preferences, and behaviours in diverse geographies.
- Collaborate with the engineering and design teams to deliver high-quality features and a seamless user experience.
- Align with the marketing and commercial teams to incorporate app features that support sales, cooker usage, and customer engagement initiatives.
- Execution and Delivery
- Write detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical requirements for development.
- Lead sprint planning and backlog prioritization in collaboration with the engineering team.
- Ensure app releases are delivered on time, meet quality standards, and comply with platform guidelines (Google Play Store and Apple App Store).
- Monitor app performance across devices and OS versions, addressing issues related to backward compatibility and platform-specific constraints.
- Continuous Improvement
- Regularly conduct competitor analysis to identify trends and opportunities in mobile app engagement and loyalty programs.
- Stay updated on mobile design principles, including Human Interface Design Guidelines and Material Design Guidelines.
- Work closely with QA to ensure rigorous testing and smooth app release cycles.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in product management, preferably in mobile app development.
- Strong understanding of mobile app analytics tools (e.g., Firebase, Mixpanel, Google Analytics).
- Proven ability to define and track KPIs to measure product success and drive data-informed decisions.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and delivering high-quality digital products.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across geographically distributed teams.
Desirable
- Experience designing and implementing loyalty or rewards programs.
- Knowledge of mobile UX principles and app-specific user behaviour.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools like Jira or Trello.
- Basic understanding of mobile development concepts (e.g., APIs, microservices, CI/CD processes).
- Exposure to working in multi-country or emerging market contexts.
