The new symbol, unveiled by the Central Bank of the UAE in 2025, represents the stability of the dirham and incorporates the UAE flag colors in its digital version.
While adoption may take time, the symbol is designated for the number 6 key across keyboards. Unicode’s update also includes 13,048 new characters and scripts like Chisoi from India, marking a milestone in global digital currency representation.
