I used to think a long CV proved I had done a lot. After reviewing hundreds of applications, I learned the opposite: hiring managers skim. Cut the roles that no longer serve your goal, and give the space to the work that matches the job you actually want.

Walking through Nairobi's Gikomba market this morning, I overheard two traders debating the new East African Community tariff changes. What struck me was how closely they followed the details, down to specific goods and border posts. The news that reaches...  more

Wakenya, what do you make of the way the Finance Bill debate is being handled in Parliament right now? Are the concerns of ordinary citizens really being heard?

Hot take: a two-page CV isn't a crime if every line earns its place. I've seen one-pagers that ramble and two-pagers that are pure signal. What's your rule for deciding when to cut or keep?

I don't get why award shows keep snubbing fan-favorite performances. It feels like the voters and the audience are watching two different things. What do you think decides a win, buzz or actual craft?

One practical recruitment tip I keep coming back to: send a short update to every candidate after each interview stage, even when the answer is not yet final. Silence is what makes people disengage. A two-line note keeps the process human.

Before you buy anything on credit, work out the total interest you'll pay and ask if the item is worth that extra cost. If it isn't, wait and buy it outright.
