Threads now has group chats, making it easier for users to connect and share updates in one place instead of sending multiple DMs. The new feature allows up to 50 people in a single conversation, transforming Threads into a more social, community-driven messaging app.
Creating a group chat is simple. Users can start a new message, add friends who follow their Threads account, and customize the chat name for easier identification — whether by topic, event, or participants. It works similarly to Facebook Messenger’s group messaging, making the transition familiar for most Meta users.
The Threads group chat feature is currently rolling out worldwide, with some exceptions. Meta confirmed that users in the UK and Australia will have to wait a bit longer. According to Meta spokesperson Alec Booker, the company aims to expand group messaging to these regions “as quickly as possible.”
Meta isn’t stopping there. Upcoming updates will introduce improved inbox management and a handy option to invite users via a shared link, instead of manually adding each participant. This makes joining group conversations on Threads faster and more convenient, especially for creators, teams, and community discussions.
Adding group chats gives Threads a stronger social edge, bridging the gap between public posts and private communities. With its growing features, Threads is evolving from a simple text-sharing app into a full-fledged messaging platform competing with X (formerly Twitter) and other social networks.
