Roku Redesigns Home Screen: New AI Features & Layout
May 28 -
Roku’s Biggest Home Screen Redesign in a Decade
Roku has announced a major overhaul of its home screen, marking the most significant update to the interface in over ten years. The redesigned home screen begins rolling out today to Roku TVs and streaming devices across the United States, with an international rollout planned for later. Best of all, the changes appear automatically—no software update is required.
Top Picks for You: Personalized Recommendations
At the top of the new home screen, a Top Picks for You section delivers content recommendations tailored to your viewing history and current trending shows on Roku. This feature aims to help you discover new movies and series without endless scrolling.
AI-Powered Quick Access Section
A new Quick Access section uses artificial intelligence to surface your most-used apps—such as the Apple TV app—right where you need them. If you prefer a full list, a separate page still displays every app installed on your Roku device.
New Curated Hubs: Destinations
Roku introduces Destinations, curated hubs that organize content by genres and moods. Whether you’re in the mood for comedy, reality TV, movies, sports, documentaries, or more, these hubs make it easy to find exactly what you want to watch.
Streamlined Menu with Persistent Ads
The main menu now features a collapsed design with icons instead of expanded text labels. Roku says this creates a cleaner canvas for content discovery. However, the change also means a large ad now appears persistently on the right side of the screen—previously, the ad only showed in certain views.
New Shortcuts Section
A dedicated Shortcuts section provides quick access to features like Continue Watching, Sleep Timer, Save List, and more—all in one convenient location.
Roku City Screen Saver Gets Interactive
Fans of the iconic Roku City screen saver will appreciate a new on-screen tile that lets you view it anytime. You can explore the cityscape, plus enjoy Daily Trivia and other mini-games directly from the screen saver.
Tags and Availability
This update is part of Roku’s ongoing Home Screen Guide. The redesign is rolling out across the U.S. starting today, with more countries following later.
