After months of exclusivity, Perplexity’s Comet browser is now available to everyone for free, positioning itself as a bold competitor to Google Chrome and other AI-driven browsers. The company promises Comet will remain free forever, making AI-powered browsing accessible to all.
What Makes Comet Different?
Comet isn’t just another browser with an AI add-on. Perplexity has built it with AI at the core, offering a personal assistant that “travels the web with you.” Instead of juggling multiple tabs and apps, Comet helps streamline everyday tasks like shopping, planning trips, and even managing your to-do list.
The goal is simple: to make browsing smarter, faster, and more personal. As Perplexity puts it, Comet helps you “get more done.”
From Premium To Free For Everyone
The AI-powered browser first launched in July, but it was initially locked behind Perplexity’s $200-per-month Max subscription. Later, a limited rollout extended access to Pro subscribers and a lucky few on a massive waitlist.
Now, that wait is over. Going forward, no subscription is required — anyone can download and use Comet for free.
Comet Plus: Premium Content Partnerships
While the browser itself is free, Perplexity is still investing in premium experiences through Comet Plus, a subscription service that bundles curated news content. CEO Aravind Srinivas compared it to Apple News Plus, with partners including:
-
CNN
-
Conde Nast
-
Fortune
-
Le Figaro
-
Le Monde
-
The Los Angeles Times
-
The Washington Post
Comet Plus is included with Perplexity Pro and Max subscriptions, or available for $5 per month to all other users.
The Bigger AI Browser Race
Perplexity isn’t alone in redefining web browsing. Google is weaving Gemini deeper into Chrome, The Browser Company is going all-in on Arc with its new AI system Dia, and Opera recently launched Neon, its AI-native browser.
With Perplexity’s Comet browser now available to everyone for free, the AI browser race is heating up — and users stand to benefit from faster, more personalized, and more intelligent browsing experiences.
