According to Meta’s metaverse VP Vishal Shah, the company isn’t limiting the metaverse to VR anymore. Horizon Worlds is being rebuilt as a social 3D platform that connects headsets, phones, and even your Facebook and Instagram feeds. Eventually, Mark Zuckerberg hinted, Meta hopes to bring this universe straight into smart glasses, blurring the line between the physical and virtual worlds.

From VR Struggles To A Multi-Platform Future
Meta’s journey hasn’t been smooth. Horizon Worlds struggled in its early years, even prompting internal memos from Shah admitting that employees weren’t using it. “If we don’t love it, how can we expect users to love it?” he asked back in 2022.
Since then, Meta has rebuilt the platform, adding polished games, fresh developer tools, and a brand-new Horizon game engine. These upgrades aim to make Horizon Worlds not just a VR hangout, but a full-fledged cross-platform social experience that adapts to users’ devices.
