Meta Partners with Bill Gates’ Startup for Nuclear-Powered AI
Meta has announced a major expansion into nuclear energy to power its growing network of AI data centers. The social media giant has signed agreements with three nuclear energy providers—TerraPower, Oklo, and Vistra—to secure 6.6 gigawatts of electricity by 2035. To put that in perspective, this capacity is enough to power the entire country of Ireland. These partnerships highlight Meta’s aggressive approach to ensuring its AI infrastructure has a reliable, sustainable energy supply.
Building Next-Generation Nuclear Reactors
As part of these deals, Meta is directly funding the construction of new nuclear reactors. The first of these reactors could be operational as early as 2030, providing clean energy for the company’s AI supercomputers. Meta’s Prometheus project, its first supercluster AI system, is set to launch this year in New Albany, Ohio. By integrating nuclear energy, Meta aims to significantly reduce reliance on traditional power sources while supporting the energy-intensive demands of advanced AI operations.

By paying the full energy costs themselves, Meta ensures that consumers are not burdened financially while maintaining its leadership in AI technology.
