Max AI Video Previews Make Browsing Smarter and Faster
Finding your next favorite show on Max is about to get easier. The streaming platform, soon returning to the HBO Max name, is introducing AI-powered autoplay video previews that highlight standout moments from shows and movies. These previews are designed to play automatically as you hover over titles, giving users a quick glimpse into the content without having to press play. This AI video preview feature is now rolling out to U.S. users, with even more intelligent scene selection on the way.
How Max AI Video Previews Work
The new system uses artificial intelligence to identify what Warner Bros. Discovery calls “Drop-in Moments”—the most compelling or representative scenes from each piece of content. Rather than relying solely on human editors, the AI scans the vast Max content library to determine which clips should be showcased. These clips are then reviewed and finalized by Max’s team to ensure quality and relevance. According to Avi Saxena, the company’s CTO, this technology not only enhances user experience but also reduces the manual workload of curating previews.
User Controls and Interface Updates
Much like Netflix, Max gives users some control over these autoplaying video previews. Viewers can choose to mute or disable both audio and video if they prefer a quieter browsing session. This addition comes after a recent interface overhaul that moved navigation options from the top menu to a side panel, aiming for a more intuitive layout. These incremental but user-focused updates suggest Max is serious about catching up with, and possibly outpacing, competitors in streaming UX.
What This Means for the Future of Max
By leveraging AI to curate highlights and streamline content discovery, Max is leaning into technology to make browsing more personalized and efficient. The move back to the HBO Max branding, combined with smarter preview features, signals a major refresh of the platform. As the competition heats up among streaming services, features like Max AI video previews could play a pivotal role in keeping users engaged—and subscribed.
