The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is a constitutional body established under Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya and Section 3 of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights Act No 14 of 2011 (revised) 2012. It has the core mandate to develop a culture of Human Rights through the promotion and protection of rights and fundamental freedoms in the Republic of Kenya.
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is an independent National Human Rights Institution created under Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and established by the Government of Kenya through an Act of Parliament (the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights Act, 2011) and in accordance with the United Nations Principles relating to the Status of National Institutions (Paris Principles). KNCHR’s mandate includes furthering the protection and promotion of human rights in Kenya, acting as a watchdog over the Government in the area of human rights, and the provision of Leadership in moving the country towards a human rights respecting state. KNCHR fulfils its human rights mandate through five Directorates including: Complaints and Investigations, Research, Advocacy and Outreach, Legal Services, Regional Services and Corporate Services. The Commission has offices in Nairobi, Wajir, Kitale, Mombasa, Kisumu and Nyahururu.

POSITION: INFORMATION COMMUNICATION AND TECHNOLOGY OFFICER – Open
REF: KNCHR/ADM/ICT/06/2024
Division: Information Communication and Technology
Reports to: Assistant Director, Information Communication and Technology
Grade: KNCHR 6
Location: Nairobi with occasional travel
Duration: Permanent and Pensionable
Gross Salary: Kshs. 100,250
Job purpose
This position is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Commission’s ICT strategy for provision of information communication and technology services in the Commission.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring ICT service desk delivery issues to ensure quick resolution of user related incidents enhancing customer service delivery.
- Assist in undertaking the day to day management of the information technology platforms to facilitate the efficient delivery of customer service and processing all transactions.
- Assist in maintaining and update the organizational ICT systems across the Commission to retain current information.
- Assist in monitoring the Wide Area Network and the Local Area Network and ensure optimum output performance within the Commission to enable smooth internet and network connectivity.
- Assist in ensuring the smooth running of all ICT systems including web applications, email system, firewall and spam filter.
- Support roll out of new applications and hardware as well as maintenance of inventory for the organization’s IT hardware and software both at the main offices and in regional offices.
- Participate in timely preparation of the ICT department budgets, work plans and reports.
- Assist in undertaking frequent data back-up for the Commission critical data and facilitate offsite storage of backup media.
- Provide user support on ICT hardware and network infrastructure and carry out preventative maintenance of ICT equipment through regular updates of operating systems.
- Assist in installing and configuring security applications within the Commission.
- Assist in setting up and configuring virtual private networks for out of office connectivity.
- Assist in developing system specification; writing and testing computer programmes according to instructions and specifications.
Skills, Experience and Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Information Technology or any relevant field from a recognized institution.
• At least 1 year of relevant service in a comparable position from a reputable organization.
• Professional Certification in Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
• Good knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
• Good knowledge of Active Directory Services and management.
• Good knowledge of software development tools and maintenance practices.
• Good knowledge of relational database management
• Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
• Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya

POSITION: PUBLIC EDUCATION AND TRAINING OFFICER – Open
REF: KNCHR/ADM/PET/05/2024
Division: Public Education and Training
Reports to: Deputy Director, Public Education and Training
Grade: KNCHR 6
Location: Nairobi but the officer will be deployed in any Commission Regional Offices
Duration: Permanent and Pensionable
Gross Salary: Kshs. 100,250
Job purpose
This position is responsible for supporting the delivery of information, education, communication and sensitization to the public, state and non-state actors on human rights issues for the purpose of enhancing promotion and protection of such rights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation public education and training programmes.
- Develop and disseminate customized human rights information, education, communication and training materials.
- Take lead in the development of human rights training programmes, manuals, modules and curricula to guide human rights education and training pogrammes for both formal and informal learning institutions
- Assist in the organization of the Commission’s divisions’ internal and external forums such as meetings, workshops and trainings for public education and sensitization programmes
- Promote programme synergy and linkages with both internal and external partners.
- Create awareness through public forums and by use of print, social and electronic media.
- Generate progress reports on education and training programs and projects.
- Provide administrative support to the implementation of human rights projects for the public in line with the strategic plan of the commission.
- Collect the data that monitors the extent of enjoyment of human rights, standards and principles by the public through feedback on public trainings delivered.
- Draft activity-based progress reports on all human rights public, education and trainings on all assigned projects for accountability purposes.
- Assist in the quality control of all human rights programmes, productions and materials to the public in order to ensure they are simple yet comprehensive.
Skills, Experience and Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, or other equivalent social sciences from a recognized institution.
• Be admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya(for lawyers)
• At least 1 year of relevant service in a comparable position from a reputable organization.
• Proven experience in curriculum development and design.
• Demonstrable experience in training, and expertise in curriculum development in a relevant field.
• Good understanding of human rights and other relevant laws.
• Good presentation skills.
• Good communication, training and research skills.
• Excellent Microsoft office tools skills.
• Meet the requirement of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
