The Accountant will be responsible for daily processing of Accounting transactions, data entry into Sage ERP, financial reporting, taxation and statutory compliance and supporting in ensuring a smooth flow of the day to day operations in the Division.
KEY TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Accountant is responsible for:
· Data entry, Verification and posting of all Accounting transactions into Sage ERP software.
· Tying subsidiary ledgers to the GL balances and cleaning the Trial balance, analyzing the subsidiary ledgers
· Verification of internal requisitions, LPO requests and Payment vouchers.
· Timely preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports and annual financial statements for the Institution.
· Supporting in streamlining the financial processes and operations
· Preparation of cash flow forecasts for the institution on weekly and monthly basis.
· Ensuring all payment requisitions received in the division are processed as required.
· Preparation of monthly bank and petty cash reconciliations.
· Maintenance of the fixed assets register and reconciliation of assets.
· Providing financial backup support to programmes operations
· Participate in the Budget preparation for the Division, Institution and ensuring budgetary monitoring & control
· Supporting the preparation of Audit schedules and final financial statements using relevant IFRSs.
· Filing all statutory returns to KRA (withholding tax, VAT, P.A.Y.E, etc.) and other statutory bodies (NHIF, NSSF and HELB returns) before the set deadlines.
· Processing institutional payroll transactions if assigned
· Preparation of Invoices for rental incomes and raising ETR receipts for the same.
· Filing and safe custody of Accounting documents
· Undertaking periodic physical verification of stationery , Assets and other Institutional supplies
· Participate in fundraising initiatives of the institution and ensuring that donor funds are utilized according to the approved budgets and compliance with grant agreements.
· Support in the procurement of goods and services in the Division
· Post invoices on goods received using the ERP on procurement
· Supervision of Accounts Assistant and any intern in the Division
· Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
ACADEMIC
· Degree in Finance, Commerce, Accounting or equivalent.
· Masters in Finance or Management is an added advantage
PROFESSIONAL:
· Minimum CPA 3 finalist
EXPERIENCE
· 3 years’ experience, 2 in a busy donor-related organization.
· Grants management skills desired.
· Experience in budgeting and reporting.
· Proficient in using financial and Accounting systems like ERP Sage software
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP
· Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
