Cloudflare’s Bot Management is meant to control which automated crawlers can access sites on its network, which handles roughly 20% of the web. On Tuesday, a bad query setup caused the system to crash, temporarily shutting down parts of the internet. While Cloudflare has introduced AI-driven defenses like its “AI Labyrinth” to mitigate bot misuse, this outage stemmed from configuration errors rather than generative AI technology.

Users experienced downtime and delayed access for hours, highlighting how reliant major services are on Cloudflare’s global network.
