The Egyptian Nightjar has returned to Fujairah’s Wadi Wurayah Biosphere Reserve five years after its first sighting in 2021.

In January 2026, the Fujairah Environment Authority team recaptured the same bird during routine monitoring, identifying it through a long-term ringing and tracking program.

This initiative allows authorities to study migration patterns, site fidelity, and habitat use.

The reserve, located in the Hajar Mountains, provides a secure habitat for migratory and nocturnal birds, supporting species that rely on gravel plains, wadis, and permanent water pools.

Wadi Wurayah remains a vital stopover for regional migratory routes.
