About Me
I belief I am best suited for post due vast experience in agriculture and water sectors both in the public and NGO world. I have over twenty-five years working experience in agriculture and water sectors that address issues of food and nutrition security and ecosystem sustainability in communities both in the government extension services and NGO community development. I have led successful intervention towards food production and utilization while using renewable energy sources both in urban and rural set-ups. In value chain development, I ensured community social inclusion whereby the vulnerable, women and youth where gainfully integrated in value chain activities. I have led several community irrigation schemes to efficiently utilize water for productive use through formation of governance structures and capacity building them on enterprises selection with respect to agroecological zones and market trends. I do community engagement to create awareness and encourage catchment ecosystem conservation activities for water and land resources. I integrate soil and water testing before any production project starts to ensure that appropriate interventions are carried out to ensure soil and land health are sustained in the long term. To cushion communities and ensure that they understand adverse impacts of climate change, I intentionally involve them in participatory scenario planning of the production activities while factoring in the seasonal weather forecasts.
Until April last year I have been working as the Agriculture Technical Advisor in the USAID Sustainable, Transformational, and Accessible Water Interventions project where I oversaw improved management, efficiency, and equitable access to water used for productive purposes in nine arid and semi-arid counties in Kenya where climate variability impacts adversely on the communities. We have been working to advance water security for social, economic, and environmental needs, helping to reverse historic neglect and enabling USAID and the Government of Kenya to achieve their ambitious objectives for inclusive economic growth while building resilience to the region’s unique shocks and stresses until we got the stop work orders. I delight the impact of land restoration activities and provision of water using green energy to improve community livelihoods and increase resilience. I have led my team in promotion of climate smart agriculture technologies that embrace social inclusion, whereby youth and women are the focus. As the technical advisor, I have led my team in restoration of degraded rangelands through use of simple and easy to apply local technologies with integration of nature-based solutions to improve livelihoods like apiculture, gums and resins. For areas prone to flooding, I have led communities to observe riparian land conservation and climate proofing the water abstraction infrastructure using locally available materials. I work very closely with the water infrastructure projects where we focus and irrigation water provision services whereby, we cover both urban and rural set-up to expand last mile connectivity to water access for production. I have led our team on governance, performance improvement plans, policy issues, strategies, frameworks, guidelines, service delivery models and forums that engage stakeholders on cross cutting issues that affect agriculture delivery services.
I will be glad to lead the team when the opportunity in finalized.
