Specifically when I was working with the Department of Lands, I applied GIS in physical planning by analyzing spatial data for the purpose of coming up with a decision on how to best use the available land. I drew maps to show zoning, infrastructure, and the topography of the area as other ways of evaluating land use. Some of the things that I did in the course of my work were to; map out the locations of new development through data layering and to determine the effects of projects on natural resources and distributing land for various uses. Hence, this analysis led to rational evaluation since the physical planning incorporated principles of sustainable development, community needs and complied with set regulatory measures.
