Role Overview
This role leads financial crime compliance for virtual asset activity, turning regulatory expectations into practical controls that support responsible product growth. Day to day, it works closely with product, technology, risk, and business teams to assess virtual asset partnerships, oversee reporting obligations, and advise on new propositions before they reach the market. It matters because virtual assets bring fast-moving risks and intense regulatory scrutiny, and this position helps the organisation innovate without weakening its AML/CFT/CPF defences.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote a strong integrity, safety, health, and wellbeing culture by applying company policies, codes of conduct, and risk controls consistently across virtual asset compliance work.
- Coordinate engagement with CBK, CMA-mandated bodies, and the Financial Reporting Centre on virtual asset regulatory compliance, reporting duties, and changing policy positions.
- Track and interpret virtual asset rules, turning new requirements into clear compliance programmes, controls, and business guidance.
- Assess and document risks for virtual asset partnerships during onboarding and ongoing monitoring, including due diligence, escalation paths, and periodic financial crime risk reviews.
- Prepare and submit Suspicious Activity Reports and Suspicious Transaction Reports tied to virtual asset activity, and act as the reporting lead under applicable AML/CFT/CPF frameworks.
- Embed AML/CFT controls into the design and build of virtual asset products, features, and third-party integrations so compliance is considered from the start.
- Advise product, technology, and business teams throughout Agile delivery, evaluating and signing off new virtual asset propositions, partnerships, and integrations against regulatory standards before launch.
- Represent the organisation in regulatory forums, industry working groups, and policy consultations, while briefing senior leaders on compliance performance, emerging risks, and the virtual asset regulatory landscape.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Law, Business, Statistics, IT, or a comparable field.
- At least six years in financial crime compliance, with practical exposure to virtual assets or VASP regulatory frameworks, fintech product compliance, or digital payments.
- Professional AML/CFT/CPF certification such as CAMS, CAMS Crypto, ICA, or an equivalent credential.
- Working knowledge of virtual asset regulatory frameworks, including FATF guidance, CBK and CMA requirements, and global best practice.
- Experience acting as a compliance partner to product and technology teams, with a track record of building controls into products rather than adding them after launch.
- Chainalysis certifications, such as Chainalysis Reactor Certification or crypto investigator/compliance courses, would be advantageous.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders, communicate complex regulatory issues clearly, and maintain strong relationships with regulators, law enforcement, and industry peers.
- Sound judgement, integrity, and resilience in handling sensitive financial crime matters and emerging virtual asset risks.
