Job Description

Role Overview

As Tax Manager, you will lead tax compliance, reporting and advisory work for Airtel Africa’s Kenyan Group entities, while coordinating tax risk oversight across its 14 African markets. You will work with finance, legal and business teams to address tax matters in day-to-day operations and cross-border activity, helping the Group meet its obligations and manage disputes and exposures consistently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation, review and timely filing of Kenyan corporate income tax, VAT and withholding tax returns, including compliance with KRA requirements and eTIMS/TIMS obligations.
  • Advise on the tax treatment of business transactions, intercompany arrangements, restructurings and strategic or commercial initiatives.
  • Lead engagement with the Kenya Revenue Authority on audits, investigations, objections, appeals and other disputes, coordinating external advisers and legal counsel when needed.
  • Work with local finance and tax teams across Airtel’s markets to monitor filing deadlines, local compliance and consistent Group tax governance.
  • Review transfer pricing policies and supporting documentation, assess compliance with local rules and applicable OECD principles, and support responses to transfer pricing audits.
  • Advise on tax considerations for cross-border transactions, intercompany services, regional initiatives and other international tax matters.
  • Maintain the Group Tax Risk Register, track exposures and disputes across operating companies, and update the consolidated tax cases dashboard each month.
  • Improve tax processes, controls and systems; prepare technical memoranda and internal guidance; and deliver tax training to finance and operational teams in partnership with relevant stakeholders.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Graduate degree and a recognised professional accounting or taxation qualification.
  • CPA(K), ACCA, ACA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is required.
  • At least 8–10 years of hands-on tax experience, ideally gained in a Big Four firm, a multinational operating across multiple jurisdictions, or both.
  • Demonstrated experience in tax compliance, tax audits and disputes, tax accounting, transfer pricing and related tax matters.
  • A postgraduate diploma or master’s degree in taxation or a related discipline is an advantage.
