Job Description

Role Overview

This is a group-level tax leadership post at Betika, a gaming, betting and digital entertainment operator headquartered in Nairobi, with responsibility spanning the parent company and its operating subsidiaries. Day to day, the Tax Manager keeps the group's tax position accurate, defensible and on time — running the filing calendar, steering transfer pricing records, shaping how new commercial moves are structured, and representing the business when revenue authorities come calling. The role matters because gaming operators sit inside one of the most tightly taxed and closely scrutinised regulatory environments in Kenya and the wider region, so getting tax right protects both margin and the group's licence to operate. Compensation is KSh 400,000 – KSh 450,000 per month, on a full-time on-site schedule of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, roll out and maintain the group's tax policies, controls and risk register, then monitor how consistently they are applied across every operating entity.
  • Own the end-to-end filing cycle for direct and indirect taxes — corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, PAYE, excise duty and the gaming and betting levies — checking calculations, approving submissions and making sure nothing lands late.
  • Build and maintain transfer pricing documentation, including master files, local files and country-by-country reporting, and review intercompany agreements and pricing to keep transactions defensible.
  • Prepare current and deferred tax provisions, statutory tax calculations and the related balance sheet disclosures that feed local and group-level audits.
  • Lead the group's response to KRA audits, compliance checks and formal assessments, coordinating with in-house Legal and external tax advisers to answer notices and pursue appeals.
  • Advise executive leadership on the tax consequences of new market entry, group restructuring, debt and equity financing, and significant commercial transactions before deals are signed.
  • Forecast group tax liabilities, plan tax cash flows, and manage the tax function's own budget while tracking the operational impact of Finance Acts, legislative amendments and international treaties.
  • Raise the tax literacy of entity finance leads, field teams and operational staff, and align ERP tax configuration and reporting workflows across the group.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics or another business-related discipline.
  • CPA(K) or ACCA qualification with current, active membership of ICPAK or ACCA UK.
  • Formal advanced training or certification in international taxation, cross-border tax and transfer pricing.
  • At least five years of post-qualification experience concentrated in tax advisory, compliance management and corporate tax structuring.
  • A demonstrated record of running tax operations across multiple legal entities and more than one jurisdiction, including regional reporting obligations.
  • Deep working knowledge of Kenyan tax law, OECD/BEPS international tax standards, transfer pricing methodology and statutory gaming and betting taxes.
  • Hands-on strength with ERP accounting systems and complex Excel modelling for tax provisioning and forecasting.
  • Prior tax oversight in sports betting, gaming, fintech, telecommunications or another heavily regulated, fast-moving sector is strongly preferred.
  • Commercial judgement and negotiation ability strong enough to resolve disputes with authorities and to bring non-finance managers into line with compliance requirements.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • A monthly salary of KSh 400,000 – KSh 450,000.
  • A full-time, on-site position based at the group's Nairobi operations, working 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • A group-wide mandate rather than a single-entity remit, covering the parent company and its subsidiaries.
  • Direct engagement with executive leadership on expansion, financing and structuring decisions.
  • Sustained exposure to cross-border tax, transfer pricing, audit defence and the specialised tax regime governing betting and gaming.
