Job Description

Role Overview

This senior structural engineering role combines technical design leadership with project, cost and contract management across building and infrastructure work. From early feasibility through construction and handover, the role ensures that projects are structurally sound, compliant, deliverable and commercially controlled. As a member of senior management, the postholder also contributes to business decisions, client relationships and the development of the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct structural analysis and design, and review calculations, drawings and specifications for safety, compliance, practicality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical approval of structural work within the limits of professional registration and delegated company authority; lead value-engineering reviews that connect design choices to project budgets.
  • Develop and assess cost plans, estimates, Bills of Quantities and elemental cost analyses; prepare tender documentation, evaluate submissions and advise on contractor selection.
  • Oversee project expenditure, valuations, interim payment certificates, variations and cash-flow forecasts, and administer contracts through claims, disputes and final accounts.
  • Manage projects from feasibility and approvals to procurement, construction, commissioning and handover, tracking schedules, budgets, quality requirements and risks.
  • Coordinate consultants, contractors and other stakeholders; monitor agreed deliverables, address underperformance and ensure applicable planning, building, safety and statutory requirements are met.
  • Assess feasibility and project risks before approval, then review completed work to identify lessons for future projects.
  • Contribute to strategy, business development and bid decisions; manage client relationships, support direct reports, improve technical and commercial processes, and maintain clear project records and reporting.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or an equivalent body, plus corporate membership of a recognised professional institution such as the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
  • At least 10 years of structural engineering experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a management position with responsibility for people, budgets and business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering multiple projects from inception to handover; work on complex or high-value projects is preferred.
  • Practical quantity surveying capability, including estimating, Bills of Quantities, contract administration and final accounts, with experience using major forms of contract.
  • Experience in one or more relevant sectors, such as commercial, high-rise residential, industrial or infrastructure projects.
  • Working proficiency with structural analysis and design software, estimating and quantity surveying tools, advanced Excel and project-planning applications.
  • Strong commercial judgement, risk assessment, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain technical issues as clear business recommendations.
  • Sound decision-making under pressure, professional integrity and a firm commitment to safety and ethical practice.

What We Offer / Why Join

The role offers the opportunity to influence both project delivery and senior-level business decisions, while guiding a multidisciplinary project team and shaping technical and commercial practices. It carries broad responsibility for structural outcomes, project performance and client engagement.
