Solutions and Business Architecture Area Chapter Lead

Role Overview

As Solution & Business Architecture Area Chapter Lead, you will guide the people, standards and governance that shape solution architecture and business analysis across the enterprise. Reporting to the Head of Data, AI Systems & Architecture, you will lead Engineering Managers supporting Consumer Business, Enterprise & Public Sector, Financial Services, Technology and Business Analysis, helping teams turn business priorities into secure, scalable and reusable digital solutions.

You will steward business, system and application roadmaps while strengthening architecture and analysis capabilities across business units. The role connects enterprise direction with delivery decisions, ensuring designs meet business needs and remain aligned with technology, security, data, AI, integration and cloud strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Set the strategy, operating model and capability roadmap for Solution Architecture and Business Analysis, and build a consistent practice across the organization.
• Lead and develop Engineering Managers through coaching, performance management, workforce and succession planning, recruitment, career development and learning programmes.
• Establish architecture principles, design and documentation standards, business analysis methods, requirements-quality expectations and processes for reviewing or approving exceptions.
• Oversee architecture review boards and assess requirements, solution and integration designs, non-functional requirements, architecture decisions and compliance before governance approval.
• Maintain business capability maps and application and technology roadmaps; ensure modernization priorities, legacy retirement plans and investment decisions support enterprise strategy.
• Develop and promote frameworks, reference architectures, reusable patterns, templates and other design assets, including AI-supported architecture and requirements practices.
• Work with Enterprise Architecture, Product Management, engineering, Data & AI, Cyber Security, Infrastructure, Operations, Delivery Management and vendors to coordinate end-to-end design decisions.
• Advance continuous improvement and practical innovation, including architecture automation and knowledge management, cloud-native and API-led design, event-driven approaches and reusable solution accelerators.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Information Systems or a related field. A master’s degree in technology, business administration, enterprise architecture or a related discipline is desirable.
• At least 8 years of experience in solution, business or enterprise architecture, or business analysis, with 5 or more years leading an architecture or analysis practice, chapter or centre of excellence.
• Demonstrated ability to lead senior technical managers and multidisciplinary teams, and to contribute to enterprise-wide digital transformation programmes.
• Strong experience with enterprise architecture governance, application portfolio management, business capability modelling, technology modernization, cloud-native solutions and API-led integration.
• Experience creating and adopting architecture standards, governance frameworks and capability-development programmes in a large, complex organization.
• Broad working knowledge of solution, application, integration, cloud, security, data and AI architecture; microservices, event-driven design, domain-driven design, DevSecOps, CI/CD and platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with architecture and process modelling methods such as ArchiMate, UML, BPMN and C4, as well as Kubernetes, API management, integration platforms and enterprise integration patterns.
• Ability to influence senior business and technology stakeholders, explain complex concepts clearly, manage competing priorities and balance near-term delivery choices with long-term business outcomes.
• Relevant professional credentials are advantageous, including TOGAF, TM Forum Open Digital Architecture, CBAP or equivalent, a major cloud-provider certification, Agile or SAFe, and ITIL Foundation or an equivalent qualification.
