Job Description

Role Overview

This internship places you at the intersection of journalism and digital engagement within a fast‑paced editorial department. Day‑to‑day you’ll craft platform‑specific posts that amplify our news stories, interact with online audiences, and support the editorial team in maintaining a consistent brand voice across social channels. Your work matters because it helps a major media outlet reach readers where they already spend their time, driving traffic and building community around reliable reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and schedule compelling social media copy for breaking news, features, and enterprise pieces.
  • Collaborate with editors to align social promotion with editorial calendars and breaking news deadlines.
  • Monitor social channels for trending topics and audience engagement, flagging relevant stories to the editorial team.
  • Assist in creating multimedia content (short videos, graphics, polls) tailored to each platform’s best practices.
  • Track and report basic performance metrics (reach, engagement, click‑through) to inform future content strategies.
  • Help manage community interactions by responding to comments and messages in a timely, professional manner.
  • Proofread and edit article drafts to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to the publication’s style guide.
  • Support the editorial team with research, fact‑checking, and ad‑hoc writing tasks as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Journalism, Communications, or a directly related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clean, engaging articles and social copy for diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and their content best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines in a newsroom environment.
  • Basic understanding of editorial workflow and news judgement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace; experience with social media management tools is a plus.
  • Must be self‑motivated, curious, and eager to learn from experienced journalists and editors.
