Role Overview
As a Commercial Driver at Victory Farms, you will be the critical link between our logistics hubs and branch locations, ensuring that fresh fish and essential supplies move reliably across Kenya. Your daily focus is on safe, timely, and cold-chain-compliant deliveries, which directly supports the company’s operational continuity in the aquaculture sector. Alongside driving, you will take ownership of vehicle readiness, route planning, and accurate delivery documentation, making you an indispensable part of the supply chain team.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport fresh fish, farm inputs, and other company goods between logistics centers and regional branches, maintaining on-time delivery schedules.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle roadworthiness, fluid levels, brakes, tires, and cold-storage functionality.
- Report any mechanical issues, damage, or safety hazards immediately, and follow preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
- Preserve cold-chain conditions throughout transit, handling perishable cargo according to established food-safety protocols.
- Plan efficient routes using navigation tools like Google Maps, anticipating traffic congestion, road closures, or other delays.
- Keep assigned vehicles clean, fueled, and operationally ready at all times, coordinating with the logistics team for refueling and servicing.
- Assist in loading and offloading products, ensuring proper stacking, securing, and handling to avoid damage or spoilage.
- Maintain accurate trip documentation, including logbooks, fuel receipts, delivery notes, and inspection checklists.
- Follow all national traffic laws, NTSA requirements, and company safety policies, practicing defensive driving at all times.
- Stay in regular contact with dispatch and logistics teams, updating them on trip progress, delays, or incidents, and supporting emergency procedures when needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum KCSE certificate; a diploma or higher qualification is an added advantage.
- Valid driving license with at least class C (or higher classification) and a clean driving record.
- At least 3 years of proven commercial driving experience, ideally with perishable or refrigerated goods.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan road networks, traffic regulations, and NTSA compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in using navigation applications such as Google Maps or other approved route-planning tools.
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills to identify and report faults before they escalate.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely, work collaboratively with loading teams, and maintain a positive, proactive attitude.
- Excellent attention to detail for accurate record-keeping and cargo verification.
- Good verbal communication skills for clear coordination with dispatch and branch staff.
- Flexibility to travel long distances and work varied shifts, including nights and weekends as operationally required.
What We Offer / Why Join
- Hands-on experience within one of the world’s fastest-growing aquaculture companies, with direct visibility into fish farming and cold-chain logistics operations.
- A mission-driven work environment where your daily contributions support food security and sustainable protein production in Kenya.
- Coaching, mentorship, and professional development from leaders with deep experience in entrepreneurship and the social sector, helping you grow beyond the driver’s seat.
