Job Description

Role Overview

This role is central to TDB Group’s East African operations, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer for the region. Day to day, you will lead relationship management with both current and prospective clients, identify and originate high-quality transactions, and ensure every deal aligns with the group’s strategic and risk appetite. Your work directly drives revenue, deepens client engagement, and supports the group’s mission to foster sustainable development across the region—making you a key link between the bank’s capabilities and the real-world needs of businesses and governments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive portfolio growth by developing country-, sector-, and client-level strategies, then executing them through targeted account plans and relationship-building.
  • Proactively uncover client needs across the group’s full suite of products—debt, trade finance, capital markets, and corporate finance—and orchestrate cross-functional teams to deliver tailored solutions.
  • Lead early-stage deal flow: prepare applications for the New Deal Forum, negotiate term sheets, and shepherd transactions through to financial close alongside product and risk teams.
  • Collaborate with credit, legal, compliance, and portfolio management colleagues to identify and mitigate risks in both new opportunities and the existing book.
  • Oversee smooth client onboarding and ongoing portfolio monitoring, ensuring timely tracking of deal closures with product partners.
  • Support the department’s annual budgeting process, helping to shape a realistic deal pipeline that aligns with corporate financial targets.
  • Review and update internal policies and procedures to maintain strong governance, controls, and compliance, recommending changes as needed.
  • Mentor junior coverage officers, sharing knowledge on market intelligence, client engagement, and transaction execution to build team capability.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Banking, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field. A professional qualification (e.g., CFA, CPA) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of relevant professional experience, gained in a development finance institution, commercial bank, or private equity firm—ideally in a client-facing role with a track record of originating, structuring, and closing transactions.
  • Proven hands-on experience with bank debt, trade finance, capital markets, or corporate finance transactions for both sovereign and non-sovereign clients.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate and sovereign credit analysis and approval processes, with the ability to work across various financial instruments.
  • Solid quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including financial modelling and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly to diverse stakeholders—both verbally and in writing.
  • Results-oriented mindset with strong organisational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities; comfortable working in multinational teams and managing long-term client relationships.
  • Genuine commitment to development impact, innovation, and knowledge management, aligned with TDB Group’s mission and values.
  • Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in French or Portuguese (official languages of TDB Group member states) is a distinct advantage.
