Role Overview
This position sits at the heart of the company’s financial operations, bridging daily transactional accuracy with broader cash flow and compliance obligations. You will spend your days reconciling bank and sales records, supervising payment and invoicing teams, and partnering with procurement and marketing to keep financial data reliable. Your work directly protects the business’s liquidity and ensures statutory deadlines are never missed.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile all bank accounts daily, investigate mismatches, and escalate unresolved issues before they affect downstream reporting.
- Drive credit control by reviewing customer ledgers, chasing overdue invoices, and proposing actions that keep receivables healthy.
- Build and maintain cash flow forecasts that give management a clear view of short-term liquidity and funding needs.
- Monitor working capital usage, identifying slow-moving inventory or stretched payment terms that tie up cash unnecessarily.
- Reconcile stock records against physical counts and system data, then work with procurement to correct cost prices and posting errors.
- Prepare and submit monthly statutory returns for PAYE, VAT, withholding tax, and withholding VAT, ensuring full compliance and timely filing.
- Reconcile daily van sales receipts, trace every variance, and confirm that route-level collections match system entries.
- Supervise the accounts payable function, verify supplier invoices before payment runs, and ensure the team keeps the vendor ledger current.
- Oversee the invoicing team to ensure sales invoices are accurate, correctly coded, and sent out without delay.
- Coordinate with marketing on event and promotion costs, reconciling spend against revenue generated and flagging any anomalies.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
- Professional certification such as CPA or ACCA is a strong advantage.
- At least three years of hands-on experience in a similar finance or accounts role, ideally with exposure to reconciliation and compliance.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for managing large datasets and building reports.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial issues to non-finance colleagues.
- Demonstrated discipline and commitment to meeting deadlines without compromising accuracy.
- High attention to detail, supported by personal integrity and a reputation for honest reporting.
- Energy and initiative to push through routine tasks, plus a collaborative mindset that puts team success and accountability first.
