Role Overview
As a Security Officer, you will help safeguard people, facilities, equipment and materials by controlling access, carrying out patrols and responding to concerns across the premises. Your vigilance and accurate reporting will help the organisation maintain a safe, orderly working environment and address security issues promptly.
Key Responsibilities
- Check and manage entry to the site for employees, visitors, contractors and vehicles, confirming identification and relevant passes or delivery paperwork.
- Patrol assigned areas and inspect facilities to spot unauthorised access, hazards, suspicious activity or other security concerns.
- Keep clear, timely records in security registers and occurrence books, and prepare reports on incidents, losses and irregularities.
- Track the movement of company vehicles, property, equipment and materials entering or leaving the premises.
- Respond to security events and emergencies, including accidents, fires and access breaches, following established procedures.
- Observe CCTV and related security systems where available, and report issues requiring attention.
- Help maintain order in the assigned area and communicate professionally with staff, visitors, contractors and external security teams.
- Assist with incident follow-up by recording observations accurately and preserving relevant information.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Previous security experience is an advantage, particularly in a manufacturing, industrial, warehouse or large commercial setting.
- Training in the National Youth Service (NYS), a disciplined service, or an equivalent paramilitary or structured security programme is strongly preferred.
- A certificate or diploma in Security Management, Criminology or a related discipline is an added advantage.
- Good physical fitness and the ability to remain on your feet or patrol for extended periods.
- Strong observation skills, sound judgement and the ability to stay composed when responding to pressure or emergencies.
- Clear communication and interpersonal skills, with a dependable, discreet and professional approach.
- Working knowledge of access control, patrol routines, incident reporting and emergency response procedures.
- Availability to work shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays when required.
