Relationship Officer - Microfinance

Role Overview

As a Relationship Officer, you will bring new customers to a credit-only microfinance business offering business loans and payroll advances, while building partnerships that support responsible growth. You will guide prospects through the loan offering, maintain relationships with existing clients, and help ensure lending activity aligns with credit policies and repayment expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Find prospective customers, assess their needs and convert suitable leads into loan clients while working toward monthly sales goals.
• Build and maintain business-to-business partnerships that can generate quality customer referrals and lending opportunities.
• Present business loan and payroll advance options clearly, and keep an organised pipeline of prospects and follow-ups.
• Look after assigned customer accounts, strengthening relationships and identifying appropriate opportunities for continued engagement.
• Monitor repayment activity across the assigned portfolio and follow up with customers where payments are outstanding.
• Review customer suitability against established credit policies and raise relevant concerns through the appropriate internal channels.
• Share market observations and customer feedback with internal teams to help improve service and sales practices.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A degree or diploma in Business, Sales, Marketing, Communication or a related discipline.
• At least three years of sales experience; exposure to microfinance or financial services is preferred.
• A demonstrated record of achieving sales targets and managing customer relationships.
• Working knowledge of credit risk considerations and loan repayment management.
• Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
• A self-directed, professional approach, with a commitment to ethical conduct and confidentiality.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media.
