This position exists to expand UMBA Microfinance's deposit portfolio by cultivating trusted relationships with individuals, groups, and institutions. The officer will spend most days meeting clients, pitching savings and fixed-deposit options, guiding customers toward suitable products, and tracking performance against growth targets. Success here directly strengthens the institution's funding stability and long-term lending capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement outreach tactics that attract new depositors while retaining existing savers, with measurable monthly and annual growth goals.
- Promote the full range of savings, fixed deposit, and investment products to individuals, SMEs, chamas, SACCOs, schools, churches, and corporate clients.
- Build client loyalty through scheduled visits, financial literacy forums, and responsive account servicing.
- Act as the dedicated point of contact for high-value deposit clients, resolving queries and coordinating internal support.
- Identify new business opportunities in the assigned territory and convert leads from community and institutional networks into lasting partnerships.
- Organize and participate in marketing campaigns, product launches, and community outreach events that drive deposit inflows.
- Maintain strict compliance with internal policies, Central Bank of Kenya regulations, and AML/CFT requirements, including KYC, due diligence, and anti-fraud standards.
- Submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on deposit performance, pipeline clients, market intelligence, and target achievements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, finance, banking, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years' experience in deposit mobilization, relationship management, or business development within a microfinance institution, SACCO, or bank.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding deposit targets and consistently opening new accounts.
- Strong networking and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport across diverse customer segments.
- Excellent presentation, negotiation, and persuasive selling abilities, especially in group settings.
- Customer-centric mindset with strong problem-solving orientation and unwavering integrity.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with branch teams.
- Familiarity with digital financial services and innovative savings products is an added advantage.
