Role Overview
The Branch Manager leads VisionFund Kenya’s branch operations, guiding staff to deliver responsible financial services while meeting business goals. The role balances portfolio quality, regulatory compliance, customer experience, and local growth, while building the team and partnerships that support the branch’s work in its community.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply branch policies and controls, oversee client assessments and credit decisions, and convene credit committees to review lending quality.
- Track field activity, arrears, and portfolio performance; take early action on delinquency and limit credit losses.
- Maintain compliance with applicable institutional and regulatory requirements, including KYC, anti-money laundering, data privacy, client protection, and safeguarding standards; prepare for audits and close at least 85% of audit findings within 90 days.
- Lead staffing, coaching, performance reviews, and development planning; identify training needs, support staff wellbeing and HR processes, and work toward staff retention of 90% or higher.
- Deliver branch targets for lending, client growth, collections, and profitability, while keeping PAR over one day below 5% and retaining at least 90% of existing clients.
- Prepare the branch business plan and annual work plans, recommend changes as conditions evolve, and pursue growth through marketing, community outreach, and expansion into new local markets.
- Build and sustain relationships with clients, community leaders, faith institutions, and partners; represent the branch and follow through on partnership commitments.
- Ensure staff use core banking, field, and management information systems effectively; monitor lending and collections through system reports and help staff and clients use digital channels.
- Oversee financial literacy, responsible borrowing, and group engagement activities; provide accurate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports and coordinate with regional, branch, and head-office colleagues.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline.
- At least three years of experience in microfinance or retail banking operations.
- Practical knowledge of credit assessment, lending operations, regulatory compliance, internal controls, audit readiness, and fraud prevention.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a team, with strong communication, planning, organization, and reporting skills.
- Comfort using digital systems and management information tools, and willingness to support technology adoption.
- Sound judgment, resilience, integrity, and a commitment to ethical leadership and inclusion.
- A committed Christian able to work across denominational differences and participate in leading daily devotions.
