Role Overview
We are recruiting for two QHSE roles: one based at a construction site in Embakasi, Nairobi, and the other at the Athi River site. You will help project teams prevent harm, maintain construction quality and reduce environmental impacts by putting QHSE systems into practice and checking that site work meets applicable standards and requirements.
The role combines regular site inspections and workforce training with incident follow-up, quality checks, environmental monitoring and accurate compliance reporting. Early involvement is important so that site rules, inductions, permits and emergency arrangements are in place before work gets under way.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, implement and review site health, safety and environmental plans and procedures, including induction, permit-to-work and emergency response arrangements.
- Inspect work areas and activities routinely; identify hazards, unsafe conditions and non-compliance, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and practical awareness sessions for employees and contractors, and reinforce safe work practices and appropriate PPE use.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, establish contributing factors and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
- Check construction work against approved drawings, specifications and applicable standards; document inspections and test results, and support client or consultant reviews.
- Monitor waste handling, dust, noise and hazardous materials, and carry out environmental inspections and sustainability activities on site.
- Maintain QHSE records, including audit, inspection, incident and training logs; prepare weekly and monthly reports and coordinate with regulators during inspections.
- Track relevant permits, licences, certifications and statutory obligations, and support the implementation of quality, environmental and occupational safety management systems.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field.
- At least two years of experience working on a construction site.
- Working knowledge of management systems such as ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for environmental management and OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety.
- NEBOSH certification is an added advantage.
