Role Overview
This is a full-time, onsite Project Manager role with an established construction contractor in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, focusing on commercial building and interior fit-out delivery. Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be the link between technical plans and real-world site progress—steering daily activities, directing subcontractors, monitoring quality, and keeping every phase aligned with approved drawings, budgets, and deadlines. Your ability to anticipate technical issues and keep multiple trades moving in sync directly determines whether handovers happen on time and to the client’s satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate project briefs into practical work schedules, resource plans, and milestone trackers for building and fit-out works.
- Interpret architectural layouts, structural drawings, and CAD files to produce precise, actionable instructions for site teams.
- Carry out daily site walk-throughs to check structural progress, workmanship quality, and compliance with material and engineering specifications.
- Direct subcontractors, technicians, and suppliers so that all trades follow a synchronized sequence and avoid avoidable delays.
- Convene weekly progress meetings with clients, consultants, and project engineers to assess milestones, clarify design details, and resolve site bottlenecks.
- Issue non-conformance reports for defective work, then oversee corrective action and re-inspection before formal quality checks.
- Maintain complete documentation, including site logs, variation orders, structural reports, and handover files.
- Proactively manage risks such as labour shortages, weather interruptions, or supply chain delays using contingency measures that keep delivery on schedule.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Technology, or a closely related field.
- 3 to 7 years of progressive site management experience on building construction or interior fit-out projects, with evidence of successful project delivery.
- Deep understanding of construction methods, building codes, structural standards, and workplace health and safety regulations.
- Practical reading ability for architectural drawings, CAD files, and structural layouts, with an eye for catching design clashes or material discrepancies early.
- Hands-on experience using scheduling tools to manage work programmes, resources, and milestone tracking.
- Strong leadership presence when managing subordinates and subcontractors, paired with clear verbal and written reporting to engineers, architects, and corporate clients.
- Proven troubleshooting instincts that keep projects moving when site conditions, materials, or manpower deviate from the plan.
