Role Overview
As Network Administrator at M.P. Shah Hospital, you will take ownership of the design, deployment and day-to-day health of the hospital's data networks, spanning LAN-to-LAN links, WAN circuits and the enterprise wireless estate. The work is hands-on: configuring and backing up routers, switches and firewalls, watching uptime and capacity, resolving faults before they reach clinical or administrative staff, and coordinating with external providers when an issue needs to be escalated. Reporting to the Manager, Systems Security within the Information Technology Division, this position matters because patient records, diagnostics, billing and internal communications all depend on a network that remains available, secure and properly documented.
Success in the role is judged on service-level compliance for network and security fixes, the number of performance and capacity problems that arise, overall network uptime, how current the internal network documentation is across all sites including branches, and whether device backups, updates and maintenance are carried out on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan and recommend designs for local and remote computer systems, then oversee the daily operation of LAN-to-LAN and WAN links while evaluating system performance and proposing improvements.
- Apply and maintain consistent baseline configurations across network devices — including the enterprise wireless network — manage the device estate, and keep backups current so any failed component can be restored quickly.
- Configure, manage, back up and monitor firewalls, network access controls and security logs, and put the hospital's network security policy into practice.
- Support users of the LAN, WAN and intranet/internet by selecting and installing bridges, routers, switches, hubs and related equipment that handle the networking protocols in use.
- Establish and administer the hospital's ICT security policies and procedures, ensuring preventive and recovery measures are in place and the risk posed by internal and external threats is minimised.
- Analyse and resolve network infrastructure problems accurately and without delay, and monitor the performance and availability of key components such as the WAN, LAN and internet connectivity.
- Act as the primary contact for networking service providers and customers, contribute to negotiating and shaping plans for future services, and stay current with new hardware and software that could enhance the network.
- Escalate issues to third-party support and coordinate their resolution, ensuring infrastructure support service level agreements across the organisation are delivered to specification.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information communication technology or a related field.
- Cisco professional certification.
- Two years' experience in information technology, with hands-on exposure to LAN, WAN and wireless networks.
- Practical ability to configure, manage and back up routers, switches, firewalls and network access controls, and to monitor network performance and availability.
- Working knowledge of ICT security policy development, preventive and recovery controls, and the review of network security logs.
- Experience liaising with networking service providers, managing infrastructure SLAs and escalating problems to third-party support.
- Ability to maintain clear, up-to-date documentation of internal networks, including branch sites.
