Role Overview
As a Mobile Phone Repair Technician, you will be the person customers rely on to turn a broken handset back into a working one — diagnosing faults accurately, quoting honestly, and completing repairs that hold up over time. You will work across the full range of everyday smartphone failures, from cracked displays and tired batteries to charging faults, audio problems and board-level damage, while keeping tight control of parts, records and turnaround times. The role matters because the shop's reputation rests on whether devices come back fixed the first time, whether customers feel informed rather than pressured, and whether their personal data is treated as strictly off-limits.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess incoming devices across iOS and Android, including Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi/Redmi models, identifying whether a fault sits in the hardware or the software and confirming it can realistically be repaired before parts or labour are committed.
- Replace and repair displays, batteries, charging ports, cameras, speakers, microphones, buttons and internal connectors, and evaluate liquid-damaged units to judge whether salvage is viable.
- Take on component-level and micro-soldering work where your skills allow, including connector and board-level repairs, and refer anything beyond safe repair capability rather than risking further damage.
- Fix software problems by reinstalling, updating or resetting devices as needed, then verify the device behaves correctly afterwards.
- Run a full functional check on every completed job — display and touch response, charging, cameras, audio, connectivity, buttons and anything touched during the repair — and hold the work to the company's technical standards, escalating immediately if a repair cannot meet them.
- Work through multiple jobs at once, hitting the turnaround times promised to customers and alerting management the moment a repair looks likely to overrun.
- Talk customers through what has failed, what the repair involves, what it costs and how long it will take, staying transparent throughout and recommending protective extras such as cases, screen protectors or chargers only when they genuinely help.
- Keep written records of every device received and job completed, assign each spare part to its specific repair before release, log faulty or returned parts, flag low or damaged stock and missing tools, and keep the bench clean, organised and safe.
- Guard customer devices and privacy at all times: never browse photos, messages, accounts or files unless access is essential to an authorised repair, never copy or share customer data, and report any accidental damage straight away.
- Stay current with new handset releases, emerging fault patterns and repair methods, and take part in technical or product training when it is offered.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in electronics, telecommunications, mobile phone repair or a comparable technical discipline is preferred, though demonstrated practical skill carries significant weight.
- Roughly two years or more of hands-on smartphone repair experience is preferred; applicants with less experience will be considered if they perform strongly in the practical assessment.
- Confident, current knowledge of both Android and iOS platforms, with experience servicing several brands — particularly Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi/Redmi.
- Solid grounding in hardware fault diagnosis and component replacement, plus the ability to use diagnostic, repair and micro-soldering tools correctly and safely.
- Motherboard diagnosis and micro-soldering experience is highly desirable and will be tested directly for candidates who claim it.
- Clear communication and genuine customer-service instincts, including the ability to explain technical problems in plain language.
- The self-reliance to manage a busy queue of repairs efficiently with minimal supervision, and the integrity to handle customer property and data responsibly.
- Shortlisted applicants will complete a practical technical assessment before final selection, covering fault diagnosis, disassembly and reassembly, screen or battery replacement, charging and connector diagnosis, software troubleshooting, post-repair testing, correct tool selection and — for those claiming advanced skills — board-level or micro-soldering work. Selection is based on demonstrated ability, repair quality, diagnostic reasoning, working method and attitude toward customers, not on paperwork alone.
