Role Overview
This medical officer assesses patients, investigates their conditions, prescribes treatment and monitors progress, including for those admitted to hospital. The role also helps coordinate specialist care and provides clinical cover during nights, weekends and public holidays, supporting continuity of care across the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients and determine appropriate investigations and treatment plans.
- Review admitted patients, monitor their progress and arrange follow-up care.
- Refer patients to relevant specialists when their needs require additional expertise.
- Provide on-call clinical cover at night, on weekends and during public holidays.
- Communicate patient updates and care needs clearly with colleagues and relevant specialists.
- Carry out other duties assigned by the Senior Medical Officer or University Authority.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), or an equivalent qualification.
- Current registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and a valid practising licence.
- Valid certification in ACLS and ATLS, or equivalent training.
- Leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer proficiency.
- Experience working in a busy hospital is an advantage.
