Job Description

Role Overview

This role sits at the heart of the investment process, acting as the operational link between strategic portfolio decisions and their successful execution in the market. Day to day, you will prepare and route dealing tickets, negotiate with financial institutions, and ensure every trade is settled accurately and on time. Beyond execution, you will manage cash flow positions, monitor maturities, and maintain the relationships with brokers, banks, and custodians that keep investment activity running smoothly, all while adhering to strict risk and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare dealing tickets for submission to intermediaries and accurately capture every trade in the fund management system within required timelines.
  • Execute buy and sell instructions with approved counterparties, negotiating competitive rates to maximise returns while mindful of tax efficiency and internal risk limits.
  • Liaise with custodians and internal operations teams to confirm that all executed trades settle promptly and appear correctly in investment records.
  • Translate investment committee decisions into actionable transactions, working closely with investment managers to implement portfolio changes.
  • Maintain complete, compliant trade documentation and update research databases and dealing logs as part of your data stewardship duties.
  • Monitor upcoming maturities, roll-overs, and daily cash requirements, recommending rebalancing actions when market developments or client cash flows demand them.
  • Build and sustain strong working relationships with banks, brokers, custodians, and issuers, arranging periodic review meetings to support informed investment choices.
  • Operate at all times within regulatory requirements, the enterprise risk framework, and internal policies, flagging incidents and ensuring counterparty service levels are met.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Business Management, Commerce, Actuarial Science, Finance, or Economics.
  • Chartered Investment and Financial Analyst (CIFA) certification is required, or demonstrable active progress toward obtaining it.
  • Additional certifications such as CFA, CPA, CISI, or CAIA are a distinct advantage.
  • Minimum of three years’ hands-on experience in investment dealing, trading support, or a closely connected role within asset management or financial services.
  • Working knowledge of investment management systems and research platforms used for portfolio administration and trade capture.
  • Sound understanding of the Kenyan financial services landscape, including Capital Markets Authority and Retirement Benefits Authority regulations and guidelines.
  • Strong grasp of financial analysis, dealing practices, risk governance, and counterparty risk concepts, with the ability to apply these under pressure.
