Role Overview
This position places you at the operational heart of a busy hospital’s human resources team, where you will translate broad organisational goals into daily people practices. You will spend your time moving between recruitment drives, staff advisory conversations, policy enforcement, and training coordination, always with an eye on how each decision affects both employee wellbeing and the hospital’s service quality. By keeping HR processes legally sound, administratively fluid, and genuinely supportive, you help ensure that clinical and non-clinical teams remain motivated, compliant, and fully capable of delivering consistent patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the full recruitment lifecycle for hospital staff, from drafting clear vacancy notices and screening applications to coordinating structured interviews, verifying references, and delivering a seamless onboarding experience.
- Serve as a trusted, neutral point of contact for employee concerns, guiding managers and staff through grievance resolution, disciplinary hearings, and conflict mediation in a way that preserves respect and fairness.
- Advise department heads on workforce planning by analysing current staffing levels, identifying retention risks, and recommending practical actions to reduce turnover in critical roles.
- Operate the hospital’s performance management cycle, ensuring that annual appraisals are completed on schedule, goals are aligned with departmental priorities, and underperformance is addressed through constructive improvement plans.
- Identify skill gaps across the hospital by conducting training needs assessments, then coordinate continuing medical education sessions, internal workshops, and external courses while tracking attendance and learning outcomes.
- Maintain accurate HR records related to leave balances, absenteeism, contract renewals, and probation periods, then produce monthly or quarterly reports that help leadership make informed decisions.
- Compile all payroll-related inputs each month, including overtime claims, shift allowances, deductions, and new starter or leaver adjustments, before sending validated data to the finance team.
- Champion adherence to Kenya’s labour laws, the hospital’s internal policies, and professional ethical standards by running awareness sessions and clarifying requirements whenever ambiguity arises.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a directly related discipline.
- At least three years of hands-on HR experience in a fast-paced environment, ideally within a hospital, clinic, or other healthcare organisation.
- Active membership in the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) with a valid practising licence and a demonstrable record of upholding its code of conduct.
- Working knowledge of Kenyan employment legislation, statutory deductions, workplace safety rules, and the unique human resource challenges found in clinical settings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex policies clearly to nurses, doctors, administrative staff, and external regulators alike.
- Proven ability to manage sensitive personnel matters with discretion, professionalism, and emotional composure, even under pressure.
- A strategic approach that connects everyday HR tasks with broader hospital objectives, while remaining empathetic to the individual needs of employees.
