Role Overview
The Human Resource Manager leads the hotel’s people operations, from hiring and onboarding through performance management, payroll coordination and employee relations. Working closely with department heads and executive management, this role helps ensure the hotel has the right staffing for changing occupancy needs, employees are supported, and HR practices meet Kenyan legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage recruitment across hotel departments, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Kitchen, Maintenance and Finance, from advertising vacancies through screening, interviews and selection.
- Coordinate new-starter orientation, probation reviews and confirmation decisions, helping employees understand the hotel’s culture, expectations and operating standards.
- Work with department heads to plan staffing levels in line with occupancy and seasonal operational requirements.
- Advise managers on performance reviews, KPI setting and development needs; identify skills gaps and arrange relevant technical, safety, service and etiquette training.
- Handle employee concerns and workplace disputes, maintain communication between staff and management, and oversee disciplinary investigations and hearings in accordance with policy and Kenyan employment law.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records, including personnel files, contracts, leave information and statutory documentation; coordinate leave plans to support continuous hotel operations.
- Review monthly payroll inputs such as attendance, overtime, allowances, advances and deductions, and coordinate staff welfare provisions covering meals, uniforms, transport and related initiatives.
- Monitor compliance with the Employment Act, OSHA, WIBA and NITA requirements, advise management on relevant legal changes, and support engagement, wellness and recognition activities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management.
- At least three years of hands-on experience in a senior HR position; experience in a hotel, resort or other hospitality setting is preferred.
- Professional HR certification, such as CHRP-K, is an advantage.
- Strong organisation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage sensitive matters discreetly.
- Demonstrated conflict-resolution ability, emotional intelligence and sound judgement in employee relations.
- Working knowledge of Kenyan labour requirements and HR administration, including payroll inputs, performance processes and employee records.
