Role Overview
This position keeps every part of the Club that members, guests and staff use — the public rooms, service corridors and back-of-house areas — clean, hygienic, tidy and ready for use at any time of day. Working from an assigned area list, the housekeeper carries out cleaning, tidying and servicing tasks, manages linen and laundry items, and makes sure cleaning chemicals and equipment are used safely and correctly. The role matters because the Club's reputation for comfort, presentation and hygiene rests on this work being done consistently and to standard on every shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean, dust, sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum and polish assigned public areas, washrooms, changing and locker areas, service corridors and other designated spaces to the standard set by the Club.
- Service washrooms and wash-up points throughout the shift, restocking consumables such as soap, tissue and hand towels and keeping fixtures, mirrors and floors presentable.
- Collect, sort, count and store linen, uniforms and laundry items, set aside stained, torn or missing pieces for the supervisor's attention, and prepare items for dispatch to the laundry.
- Prepare function and meeting spaces before use and restore them afterwards, returning furniture and equipment to their correct positions and checking the area is clean and ready.
- Handle cleaning agents, tools and machines in line with instructions, including correct dilution, safe storage and the use of personal protective equipment where required.
- Collect, segregate and dispose of waste correctly, keeping bins, trolleys and holding areas clean and free of odour.
- Report hazards, spills, damaged fittings, plumbing or electrical faults, and defective equipment to the supervisor promptly instead of attempting repairs.
- Keep store rooms, trolleys and cleaning equipment clean, secure and serviceable, and hand over outstanding tasks and observations at the end of each shift.
Requirements & Qualifications
- KCSE or an equivalent secondary-level qualification.

- Ability to identify cleaning materials, tools and equipment and apply each one correctly and safely for the task at hand.
- Familiarity with hygiene, sanitation and environmental cleanliness practices, including the order in which areas should be cleaned to avoid cross-contamination.
- Practical knowledge of handling, sorting, storing and caring for linen, uniforms and laundry.
- Awareness of workplace safety, chemical handling, use of personal protective equipment and how to escalate hazards.
- Courteous, professional and service-oriented manner when dealing with members, guests and colleagues.
- Basic understanding of how housekeeping waste should be collected, segregated and disposed of.
- Basic training in housekeeping, cleaning, hygiene, food safety or occupational health and safety would be an added advantage.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, kneel and carry equipment for the duration of a shift, and willingness to work the rota assigned, including weekends and public holidays.
