Role Overview
This position is for an experienced heavy goods commercial vehicle (HGCV) driver assigned exclusively to night-time shunting operations at the DHL client site in KBL. You will be responsible for moving trucks between loading bays, coordinating the safe and timely loading of products, and transferring fully loaded vehicles to Kasarani while meeting strict turnaround targets. Your work keeps the client’s supply chain flowing overnight, so precision, safety, and adherence to operational procedures are essential to the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate vehicle movements at the client site to keep loading times within agreed performance indicators and minimise turnaround delays.
- Conduct pre-shift and post-shift vehicle inspections, reporting any faults, damage, or maintenance needs immediately for corrective action.
- Operate DHL heavy goods vehicles on approved routes, maintaining courteous behaviour toward other road users and upholding the company’s professional values.
- Follow all standard operating procedures for loading and offloading at the client premises, ensuring all delivery documentation is completed accurately, signed where required, and submitted to the relevant offices.
- Adhere strictly to traffic laws, health and safety regulations, and client site rules, including documented entry, loading, and exit processes.
- Report near misses, breakdowns, accidents, and potential risks to supervisors without delay.
- Manage fuel efficiency to meet the set kilometres-per-litre target and complete trip entries in the TRAMM mobile system as directed.
- Load and dispatch completed trucks to Kasarani promptly according to instructions, supporting the overall turnaround time and representing DHL Supply Chain professionally at all times.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid HGV driving licence with a minimum of three years' professional driving experience.
- O-level school certificate; a certificate in mechanics is an added advantage.
- Ability to work flexible shift patterns, including nights and irregular days.
- Comfort in a physically demanding environment that involves repeated coupling, docking, and vehicle checks.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
- Sound knowledge of road safety, vehicle maintenance checks, and legal compliance for heavy commercial vehicles.
