Role Overview
This role leads the financial and investment architecture behind a mortgage portfolio, linking capital markets, real estate development, and affordable housing delivery. Day to day, it involves structuring funding solutions, evaluating property investments, guiding project teams, and working with public and private partners to move housing schemes from concept to completion. The position matters because it helps the employer expand housing supply and mortgage access while maintaining commercial discipline and managing risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement financing and investment approaches for the mortgage portfolio, spanning real estate investment trusts, bonds, blended finance, tenant purchase schemes, security-backed lending, and other capital structures.
- Lead capital-raising efforts and form funding partnerships that support durable growth of the mortgage business.
- Drive affordable housing financing and delivery solutions across public and private sector developments.
- Structure, appraise, and monitor real estate investments and development projects, balancing commercial viability with effective risk management.
- Manage a portfolio of projects through planning, execution, monitoring, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitor housing market trends, policy changes, and emerging opportunities to inform business strategy and investment decisions.
- Lead multidisciplinary technical teams covering project management, valuation, construction, and real estate advisory services, while developing policies, frameworks, and risk management strategies for housing and property-related investments.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with government agencies, county governments, investors, development partners, and other housing ecosystem stakeholders, and provide expert advice and strategic insight to senior management on housing development, real estate investment, funding strategies, and market opportunities.
Requirements & Qualifications
Candidates should combine formal built-environment or finance training with hands-on delivery experience in housing, property, or investment settings.
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, quantity surveying, building economics, construction management, or another relevant discipline from a recognized university.
- Professional certification in project management, real estate finance, sustainability or green finance, fundraising, capital raising, or a comparable field.
- A master’s degree such as an MBA, MSc, MA, or equivalent is advantageous.
- At least eight years of relevant experience, with five or more of those years focused on affordable housing, real estate development, project management, housing finance, investment management, or a closely related area.
- Demonstrated track record in capital raising, transaction structuring, real estate funding, or development finance.
- Proven ability in portfolio management, business development, and leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong grasp of affordable housing programmes, housing finance, real estate markets, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Working knowledge of Kenya’s housing sector, including market, economic, social, and demographic dynamics.
- Excellent analytical, stakeholder management, communication, and strategic leadership skills.
