Role Overview
The Grants & Program Finance Officer oversees the financial planning and reporting that supports donor-funded programs, from setting grant budgets to tracking expenditure and preparing donor reports. By turning financial data into clear forecasts and analysis, the role helps program teams make informed decisions, manage resources responsibly, and demonstrate how funding supports results.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain donor grant budgets, track spending, monitor burn rates, and check expenditure against approved budgets and donor rules.
- Prepare donor financial reports and support grant audits, financial reviews, and compliance checks.
- Develop annual and grant budgets, prepare quarterly forecasts, and coordinate budget revisions or reallocations.
- Analyze budget variances, cost per beneficiary, county-level expenditure, and program efficiency; present findings through financial dashboards.
- Build budgets and cost projections for proposals, write supporting budget narratives, and contribute financial information to resource mobilization efforts.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and financial presentations for management, the Board, and donors.
- Help program staff strengthen budget management, support county work planning and procurement planning, and provide regular budget utilization updates.
Requirements & Qualifications
- CPA-K qualification is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Four to five years of experience managing finances for donor-funded grants.
- Strong practical experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Experience preparing donor financial reports and budgets for proposals.
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks.
