Role Overview
This position reports to the Dean, School of Pharmacy, and focuses on teaching, student supervision, assessment, and research within the school. Day to day, the lecturer prepares course materials, delivers Diploma and Certificate-level pharmacy instruction, guides student projects, and helps learners meet the academic and attendance standards required for examinations. The role is important because it strengthens the school’s teaching capacity, supports timely student progression, and contributes to research, publication, and field-based learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Take part in curriculum review and development, then turn agreed content into clear course outlines and supporting learning resources.
- Teach Diploma and Certificate courses, ensuring learners receive full coverage of the required syllabus.
- Set, invigilate, and mark examinations, and compile progressive reports that show how students are progressing.
- Supervise student projects and attend defence meetings so learners can complete their studies successfully.
- Conduct research, prepare publications, present at conferences, and pursue funding opportunities that support university research.
- Facilitate field studies and assess students during attachments, trips, and internships.
- Maintain lecture attendance records and confirm that students meet the required four-fifths attendance threshold before sitting examinations.
- Attend official university meetings and functions, and carry out other administrative duties assigned by the Dean or department.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy with at least an Upper Second-Class honour.
- A minimum of one year of teaching experience in a recognised academic institution.
- Current registration for a relevant Master’s degree programme.
- Valid registration with the Pharmacy & Poisons Board.
- Ability to prepare course outlines, learning content, and examinations, and to assess and report on student progress.
- Capacity to supervise student projects, support field attachments, and contribute to research and publication.
