Golf Range Attendant

Role Overview

The Golf Range Attendant keeps the practice areas running smoothly so that members, guests and golf professionals can warm up, practise and receive instruction without disruption. On a typical shift, this means preparing hitting bays, managing the supply and condition of range balls and baskets, and making sure all surrounding practice spaces are clean, safe and ready for use. The role matters because a well-kept range directly affects player safety, the quality of the practice experience, and the overall impression of the golf operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect, wash, inspect and return range balls to dispensers, removing cracked, damaged or unsuitable balls from circulation.
• Replenish baskets, trays and ball dispensers at hitting bays and monitor stock levels throughout the day.
• Check and maintain mats, tees, dividers, ball trays, pickers and other practice equipment, reporting faults or damage promptly.
• Keep hitting bays, practice putting and chipping areas, bunkers, pathways and surrounding grounds tidy, litter-free and presentable.
• Enforce range safety rules and basic golf etiquette, making sure players use designated areas and conduct themselves safely around others.
• Greet and assist members, guests and golf professionals courteously, responding to routine requests and directing queries to the appropriate person.
• Follow daily operational checklists and maintenance schedules, including sweeping, raking, cleaning and restocking tasks.
• Coordinate with supervisors and golf operations staff during busy periods, lessons, group practices or events, and report incidents, hazards or equipment issues.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: KCSE or an equivalent academic qualification.
• Experience: 1–2 years in golf, sports, recreation, hospitality, leisure or a related customer-service environment.
• Golf range knowledge: Basic understanding of how a driving range and practice facility operates.
• Equipment familiarity: Basic knowledge of range balls, mats, baskets and other practice equipment.
• Golf etiquette: Basic awareness of safe conduct and appropriate behaviour around golfers.
• Customer service: Ability to interact courteously and helpfully with members and guests.
• Health and safety: Basic knowledge of safe working practices in a golf or sports setting.
• Cleaning and presentation: Ability to maintain clean, orderly and presentable facilities.
• Work procedures: Capable of understanding and following routine operational instructions.
• Advantageous training: Training in golf operations, sports, recreation, hospitality or a related area is beneficial.
• Professional membership: Not required.
• Physical requirements: Comfortable working outdoors and carrying out routine manual tasks as part of the daily role.
