Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on leadership position for a seasoned hotelier who can set the direction of the property and then stay close enough to operations to make sure that direction actually lands. The General Manager owns the commercial health of the hotel — the P&L, the guest experience, the condition of the asset — while leading a full department head team that depends on clear priorities and consistent follow-through. Success looks like a property that hits its revenue and margin targets, retains strong managers, and earns repeat business because the standards hold up seven days a week, not just on inspection days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the property's strategic and operational agenda, translating ownership and brand objectives into annual plans that each department can act on.
  • Own the budget cycle end to end: forecast building, cost control, capital planning, and the monthly variance analysis that explains performance against plan.
  • Drive revenue performance across rooms, F&B, and ancillary outlets — pricing, mix management, distribution, and sales strategy developed jointly with the commercial team.
  • Direct daily operations through the Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Finance, Security, Engineering, and Sales & Marketing leaders, holding each to measurable service and financial standards.
  • Recruit, coach, and appraise the management team, building a bench of internal successors and addressing underperformance early rather than letting it spread.
  • Safeguard compliance across licensing, health and safety, fire and security, employment law, and brand or franchise audits, keeping documentation audit-ready at all times.
  • Represent the hotel to owners, directors, and corporate stakeholders through regular, accurate reporting on trading results, guest metrics, and operational risks.
  • Stay visible on the floor — reviewing guest feedback, resolving escalated complaints, and walking the operation with department heads to catch problems before guests do.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Hospitality Management is required; a Master's qualification is viewed as an advantage.
  • At least eight years in senior hospitality management, including a minimum of four years in a General Manager role — ideally with exposure to full-service or multi-outlet properties.
  • Demonstrated command of hotel financials: P&L ownership, budgeting, cost management, and revenue optimisation, with a track record of improving margin or RevPAR.
  • Proven ability to lead a large, cross-functional team of department heads, including hiring, development, and performance management.
  • Working proficiency in Micros Fidelio and the Microsoft Office suite (Excel in particular) for reporting, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Sound working knowledge of regulatory and compliance obligations affecting hotel operations, from fire and safety to employment standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for board-level reporting, owner relations, and day-to-day team briefing.
